Hello again everyone.
Directly related to what we've been discussing, I thought this would be an appropriate post. We've been discussing Monks, and God, and a lot of our readings have been directly discussing God, so I figured now would be a good opportunity to write this.
First, let me begin my post by saying that I am not a Christian. (Gasp!) But before all you religion lovers go jumping down my throat, let me tell you that it is not that I do not believe in God, it is simply that I have a lot of questions about him, and until they are answered, I can not possibly be called a Christian. I think this proves for a very interesting discussion, and I love hearing other people's views.
I knew if I posted this, I would get a lot of God-loving people to respond to me, and that is what I want, because as Professor Bacig said, the point of education is the search for the truth, and it can only be found between all of us. So, here are my thoughts on God, and I'd love some answers to my questions.

First of all, how do we know there is a God? The immediate response is that we have faith. Well, why do we have faith? Because we've been brainwashed from birth that he exists? The other commmon answer is that we feel God's presence in our lives. First of all, how do you know it's God you're feeling and not just your own mind working overtime? What if, (just for fun) we say that the bible was really written by the devil, and all this time we've been worshiping him thinking we're worshiping God. The point is, HOW DO WE KNOW?
That is my basic problem. I have no real reason to believe in God. I have no physical proof that he exists. And I don't want to have faith, because I feel that there is no reason to have faith. Just like if someone told me that there was a big pink elephant standing behind me. I wouldn't believe that, because I have no reason to believe it.
That is problem number one. I'd love to hear the answers to the problem. Perhaps I just don't have all the information (Which, I will remind you all, is why I do not believe in God, but I am not quite prepared to disbelieve in him. I'm still contemplating it all)

Ok. Let's say that there is a God. Socrates believed in God. Let's say that he is correct. If there is a God, how can he be so injust? That is my problem with the Christian God. He is supposed to be perfect, right? If he is perfect, why would he create something imperfect? Why would he make us humans have faults? Just so he can laugh at us and then damn us to Hell? Is that fair and just and loving? If he is a loving God, how can he damn us? Incidentally, in one of our class readings I found an answer to that question, which might possibly have satisfied my question on that, but I'm not going to discuss it here until I examine it more closely. But I do welcome discussion, hopefully someone will make me see the light and they can have 5 points of extra credit (Can I give out extra credit? I don't know, I'll have to discuss that one with the Professor :) )
Anyway, those are my midnight ravings for today, so if you agree or disagree, feel free to drop me a line so we can discuss this!
