:I too am in a similar spot as Hillary, and if anyone has any answers for me I would certainly appreciate them.
The existence of God based on faith or fact is one that is apparent in everyones life in some form or another. This is a topic that I have heavily contemplated for quite awhile. Let me first tell you that I raised in a family that was not involved in church, yet not atheist. I never went to church or Sunday school, except on rare occassions with my friends. Now that I'm older and have a better grasp of the concept of religion, I see to have gone nowhere in my search for the truth and a form of faith, if that is what I chose.
I'll be graduating this spring with a major in cellular biology and have this concrete foundation of science and the whole big bang theory. Yet I still find myself searching for some sort of existence of a God, which I consider strange since every part of my logic of thinking is just that, logical. I also find it strange that in times of great stress or hardship I catch myself praying to God, to exactly what or who I'm not sure. Now this puts me in a strange spot, since I have rarely ever gone to church or been exposed to a form of faith, where do these time when I pray come from?? Another thought, even though I don't go to church, I still consider myself a good person, but does that mean I won't go to heaven?
In reading the other posts regarding God creating everything, including the elements for the big bang, or the case of things just "being" I find myself caught in between. I can completely understand both viewpoints and see valid arguments for both sides. However, I cannot come to a rational conclusion either way, maybe I'm looking for more concrete evidence either way, the scientist coming through.
I know I'm rambling a bit, but if anyone is in the same boat as I am, or has an opinion either way, I would love to hear it.
Thanks!
