Your story sounds similar to mine. My family never really attended church, but I was told to believe that there was a God, and I found myself believing in, and praying to something that I did not even understand.
Last year I began looking at God from a philosophical and scientific point of view, and as such, I have begun to doubt God. I want to be able to believe in God, and I wish there could be a reason to, but I can't make myself believe in something that has no basis behind it.
I just thought I would drop by, to tell you that you are not wrong for wanting to be able to believe in this. I still pray sometimes, although not nearly as often as I did, when I find myself believing and wanting to believe.
