When did you start at UMD? Why did you choose to work at UMD?

I started at UMD at the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. I chose to come to UMD due to the very cohesive and welcoming atmosphere of the psychology department and the university as a whole. Coming here required me to give up another job as a research scientist, but at the end of the day I felt I had to follow my passion for teaching and academia.

What do you like most about your job? 

I like interacting with students both through class and my research. It is very rewarding to see student's interests and knowledge grow, while also providing me an opportunity to learn and improve as well.

What is your research focus?

My research primarily centers around worker well-being. Specifically, I examine how people choose to regulate their emotions at work and how these choices impact things like worker burnout, job satisfaction, and performance.

Do you have any advice for students?

My biggest piece of advice as a person interested in well-being, is to find a balance between school/work and your personal life. It is important to have passion for what you study, but that passion can easily become detrimental if you overexert yourself. So, put forward your best effort, but also remember to not to feel guilty and to take time to relax and do things you enjoy as well.
