A lot of people ask how could this intellegent bunch of guys back in the rennaisance have thought that women were the source of sin. How could they justify the need for women to be subserviant to males? The answer to these and a lot of other questions of the same sort is the church and more broadly religion as a whole. The majority of religions of that time and this time are patriarchal, all the focus is on the male. The male is connected to the spirit, the intellect, all the "good" things considered good, or needed in order to gain heaven. The women were seen as closer to the human emotions, to nature, all those nasty things that could distract people (men) from the things they had to do in order to stay on the good side of the big guy in the sky. There were other religions around besides christianity but lets face it the major ones were Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinu, and all of these are not too female friendly. It is interesting to think about how these people thought that women were these temptrouses that had to be covered up and kept under control when it was the men who were supposed to be so easily thrown off track. Which sex is stronger and which is weaker, good or evil. I don't know I'm just a male.
