After reading this post and the follow-ups I began thinking a little bit more on how patriarchy is still so strong in today's society, and why it was so strong in the Renaissance era.
I do know that when people are threatened, they tend to try and supress what is bothering them. Maybe, when Eve ate the apple and began to know more than Adam, he was scared and didn't want to lose his equality. When he too ate the apple, it wasn't because he was tempted, but because he was afraid of being the weaker sex. Seems to me that is what is happening still today, but it doesn't just attend to gender.
It has been proven that women can learn as much as men. When it comes to intelligence I would say both sexes are equal, it just depends on how one uses the knowledge one knows. None of this may be exciting and new news.
As for the religions, I think if someone finds something to believe in and, that belief is strong enough, people around him (or her) will begin to also believe. The religions are beliefs of one or a few people that have taken a hold of the world. If one man says women should be surpressed, it won't go very far but if he says, I was told by God himself... well, we know where that can go. Maybe, somewhere way back when, a man decided that he didn't like his wife knowing more than him, or he wanted to sleep with someone else, but was married. So he was a little egotistical, and then used a "sighting, or voice" to say that he was told that women should be controlled, or covered, or are "vessels of sin."
Okay, I am now way off the track. I am not saying that it is completely the man's fault for all the years that women were controlled or denied. I don't think there is an actual stonger or weaker sex, it just depends on which situation you are sitting in. Some men handle some situations better than others, and the same with women.
But, if you made me choose, I would say women are the stronger sex because we have let the males control and dominate for so long, and without much complaint.
Imagine never having your own money to buy what you wanted, and then having to explain why you want money. Or, not being able to make simple, day to day, decisiions. It takes a lot of control and patience to be a women in those situations, and it takes a lot of laziness for men to give those orders.
It seems to be the time for everyone to make thier own independence.
I am now off and babbling, so I will let this take a rest.
I still don't know all the answers, I am just a book reading, pencil pushing, late for class, college student.
