6. Joseph Peter DURAND (1) was born on 15 Apr 1884 in Faribault MN. He died on 19 Mar 1975 in St.Paul, Mn. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL SOURCE NOTES:
Joseph may have completed 4th grade. Family church either Sacred Heart or
St.Lawrence, whichever was known as the French church. Joseph was told by his
parents that he traveled by Oxcart from Faribault to Turtle Lake when he was
four years old, (1888). Gertrude understood that the Joseph Eugene built the
Ox cart to move the family from Faribault MN to Turtle Lake WI.

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
A family friend and probably a third or fourth cousin was an Ella(?) Boucher
who lived in the capital hill area of St.Paul area in about 1925.

Mary is reported to be a native of St.Paul MN

!FAMILY GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Family moved to St.Paul Mn Cathederal Place in the same building with paternal
grand parents, Eugene and Dehlia Durand. They moved from the farm near
Stillwater in Fall of 1930 after school started. The father Joseph decided
to move back to the city when three cows were killed by a train that ran on a
track next to the farm home. He was afraid that one of the children would be
next.

The marriage date is based on the age of the oldest child, Esther. He was married to Sarah Jane BEGIN on 29 Jun 1908 in Faribalult MN Immacualte Church?.

7. Sarah Jane BEGIN (1) was born on 26 May 1885 in Faribault MN. She died on 1 Aug 1927 in Farm Near Taylors Falls Mn. She was buried on 4 Aug 1927 in Calvary Cemetary - Faribault Mn. !FAMILY GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:

Sarah loved Faribault her home town and visited whenever she could. When her
children were old enough they would go down to Faribault to help Granpa Begin
on his farm. In 1936 Leo, Marie, Corrine, Lorraine, and Marge all went to
Faribault to help Joseph Henry Begin who was dying. This was the same year
that Gertrude Lillian married Tom Bacigalupo.

!INDIVIDUAL BIRTH SOURCE NOTES:
Sarah love tea and regularly bought it from a traveling salesman who worked
for the Jewel Tea Co. when they lived on west 7th St. in St.Paul. Esther
later continued the practice after Sarah had died.

!INDIVIDUAL DEATH RESEARCH NOTES:
The funeral for Sarah was at St.James Catholic Church on west 7th street in
St.Paul, MN. Funeral procession to Faribault on the same day as the funeral
for burial at Calvary Cemetary. Children were:

child i. Esther DURAND(1) was born on 29 Jun 1909 in Charles Street, St.Paul Mn. She died in 1935.
child ii. Richard DURAND(1) was born on 4 Mar 1911 in Charles Street, St.Paul Mn. He died in 1997 in St.Paul, Mn. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
At the time of his death the newspaper reported that Uncle rich had 34
grandchildren and many great grand children.
child iii. Henry Napoleon DURAND(1) was born on 6 Jun 1912 in Charles Street, St.Paul Mn. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL SOURCE NOTES:
On 9/14/97 Gertrude told a story of Hank having to bury the after-birth when a
child was born . A doctor, (Doctor O'Connor) attended the birth of the
Durand children but it was up to the family to deal with the after-birth.
Sarah would ask Hank to do it. Sarah instructed Hank to bury it two feet
under ground in an empty lot near the house. Hank and Sarah were very close
and she and Hank teased each other often.

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Henry is favorite Uncle of Donald Charles Bacig. He had close relationship
with his grandfather Joseph Eugene Ludger Durand
Henry,(Hank)
worked with Joseph Eugene in the woods. Hank remembers his grandfather
repairing a wagon wheel on the road with the simplest of tools. He also
remembers Joseph Eugene Straigtening barns by line of sight only. Hank once
checked his work by using a level and found it to be true. Joseph Eugene also
pulled stumps using a team of mules and a long log as a lever to lift the long
stumg from the ground.
Hank was a great sport hunter and fisherman. He also was a sky Jumper once
breaking his back in a fall off the Battle Creek Sky Jump. After the fall he
crawled to his car and went home and it wasn't til a couple of days later that
he found out that he broken his back.
child iv. Barbara DURAND(1) was born on 10 Nov 1914 in At Home 917 Vista St. St.Paul Mn area). She died in 1915.

child vii. Corrine DURAND(1) was born on 10 Nov 1919 in At Home 917 Vista St. St.Paul Mn area).

child x. Died At Birth DURAND(1) was born 1927,JULY. She died 1927,JULY. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Joseph told Gertrude when she was about 18 that there was a 12th child who
Joseph described as a "Little Mary." The fetus died in the womb. Sarah was
suffering from TB and could not sustain the pregnancy.
child xi. Leo John DURAND(1) was born on 11 Aug 1918 in At Home 917 Vista St. St.Paul Mn area). He died on 20 Sep 1977. He was buried in Fort Snelling Cemetary St.Paul Mn. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Leo was a veteran or the second world war. He entered when he was about 25
years old near the end of the war. He was stationed in the states and Gert
believes he served by repairing/working on planes due to his trade skills as a
carpenter. Gert saw a picture of him with his group and by a plane. Gert
thought that he was a staff sargent or corporal. Gert thought that he may
have permanently injured his wrists during this time. Gert thought that he
didn't have regular strength in his hands and wrists. Leo look terrific in
his uniform.
child xii. Rita Jane DURAND(1) was born in 1924 in At Home 917 Vista St. St.Paul Mn area). She died in 1924. She was buried in Calvary Cemetary Faribault Mn.
