The Maroon Loon was legendary at UMD men’s hockey games from 1981 until 2005. Fans thought they might never see the Loon again after its final appearance at the Bulldogs' last game at the DECC arena on December 4, 2010. It seemed like that era was over. But on Friday, November 14, 2025, the Maroon Loon, with original costume and props, made a triumphant return. To much fanfare, the iconic mascot rejoined the UMD men's hockey team for a special weekend appearance.
