CEHSP student spotlight: Marissa Thompson

Meet Marissa Thompson, a junior and public health major

Headshot of Marissa Thompson

Why did you choose UMD?

For their public health program in addition to it being located where I live.

What do you like most about your programs?

Learning about health and all the various forms it takes. The faculty are also incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.

What has been your most meaningful experience at UMD so far?

Building relationships with fellow students and faculty.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I remember being afraid to ask questions in my classes when I attended college for the first time. Now as a non-traditional student, I get so much more out of my classes by asking questions along with a deeper understanding of the content.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love spending time with my husband, daughter, and French bulldog. We like to go running and hiking. I also enjoy cooking and eating food with my family using many ingredients from my parent’s hobby farm.
