Jennifer Kreps Frisch, PhD, has been named a Sound Science Fellow by the National Center for Science Education (NCSE).
Kreps Frisch is an associate professor and head of the Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). She joins five other educators nationwide in the fellowship's 2027 cohort.
This competitive research and service program aims to strengthen K–12 science education and build public trust in science by countering misconceptions around critical topics like climate change, evolution, and the nature of science. Fellows receive an honorarium, networking and collaboration opportunities, and amplification of their work.
An advocate for inquiry-based education, Kreps Frisch co-edited “Wicked Problems in PreK-12 Science Education: Stories and Strategies for Confronting Complex Topics in the Science Classroom.” This book serves as a resource for science teachers and teacher educators. It was designed as a practical tool to help navigate complicated science education topics.
She is recognized for incorporating engaging, hands-on activities into the classroom. Her qualitative research explores how teachers and students make sense of science and the natural world through storytelling — using photography, podcasts, multimedia websites, video, and nature notebooks.
