I can see where you are coming from with the thought that the monks were 'scared of the truth.' But do you really think that was the case, or were they simply protecting themselves from the dissappointment that may come with the discovery that someone among them, even when protected by and following God, was actually commiting these murders? Do you think that they could have in fact been scared to realize that their almighty God actually allowed men the freedom of mind to choose what they did during their lives on earth? God may have been watching over them, but he could not protect them from the evil and distorted views of faith that were present in the minds of these monks. They were, after all, only human.....
