I've always had a major problem with Christmas. First of all, recently I've had a few problems with the thought of God, but for a long time I've had problems with Christmas and most holidays. The meaning of Christmas was to celebrate Christ's birthday. My parents are semi-religious, and they have a nativity set that they take good care of. They never place the baby Jesus in the scene until Christmas when he is officially born. THat is the extent of our religious tradition. We don't even go to chuch any longer because we don't take the time out to honor God. If people are going to celebrate Christmas, they should be doing it for the right reasons, not because we should be buying presents. That's just selfish and wrong.
I personally would be happy if we didn't exchange gifts. How about a day when we just kiss those we love, and maybe have a nice dinner as a family. Are presents under the tree a necesity? It can be more painful than anything.
I hate going out and spending $100 dollars to show people I care about them. Shouldnt' they already know that I do?
If we are going to believe in God, lets do it the correct way, and not the selfish way.
