You're partially correct in your suggestion: I'm not entirely sure either way, however, there's no proof to make me believe, thus I remain basically an agnostic (with atheist tendencies).
As far as "Higher power" vs. "Religion" I see the two as separate, not using one instead of the other--they're not synonymous. Higher power to me means a god or spiritual being controlling our destiny, or a power greater than myself. Religion is the belief by which one lives their life. It's what guides them. It can be organized or unorganized. And, it is generally associated with a persons identity, which is to say you're judged by what your religious affiliation is (including none). In which case I see religion, or the ddefinition of, as a bad intolorant thing, which tends to negate the positive. So I don't feel I've mislead myself. I'e made it this far in my life without a true belief in God--it's worked for me and I don't feel spiritually empty, nor do I feel lost. I keep myself open to what religion may have to offer in the way of better understanding myself, because to deny myself of the possibilities in life would be to deny myself life.
I won't touch on creation. It's to far beyond me and way to complex to except in terms of "God created everything."
I think you may have misinterpreted my question/comment about "is God dead?". You're right, a spitritual power itself can't die. By die I mean loose momentum and appeal...has it been replaced by something else? Has the thought of God as a power, a savior, been lost? I think focus has shifted from that type of thought to materialism and capitalism. You must admit we do not live in a society that practices the ten commandments. God and what he/she represents is down the list in our pop culture driven world. (which may the reason why I question religion and it's motives) What I see are people who go to church or practice religion because they think they have to or else!
So, thus ends my defense. Thank you!
