Troubleshooting PageMaker Printing Problems

Problem 1: text disappearing, or fonts being changed in printing
Suggestion: Try reducing the size of the type by half a point or a point

Problem 2: pictures appearing in unexpected places on the printout
Suggestion: Delete the image from the PageMaker document (even if it looks to be in the right place on the screen) and then re-place it.

Additional Comment: There are various ways to place an image in a PageMaker document. If before you simply copied and pasted from another program, try placing the image using the method described on page 135 of the PageMaker book: that is, with the pointer tool, choose File > Place. Also read page 141 about Embedded vs. Linked images--you may consider embedding images that are giving you problems.

Problem 3: pictures not appearing at all
Solution A: Try reducing the size of the picture slightly, or moving it slightly on the page. ITSS was able to make your disappearing images reappear in their printouts.

Solution B. Delete the image and re-place it (see Problem 2 above)

Solution C. Delete the image from the document, go to the original image file on your disk, and make a copy (right-click, choose "Copy," then right-click again on the background and choose "Paste"...new copy of the file will appear). Give the new copy of the image a name different from the original. Now place new copy of the image in your document (in PageMaker, choose File > Place)

Problem 4. print jobs not printing out
Solution: Before you print, choose File > Document Setup and select the printer you want from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the Document Setup Window. Obviously, when you then choose File > Print you need to choose that same printer in the Print Window.

Problem 5. color printers not printing your document as well as the black-and-white printers did, or not processing the print jobs at all.
Solution: Print only from the larger, 8000-series color printers located in SBE or Montague (rather than the 4000 series in the library)
