48. Jean Baptise DURAND (1) was born on 15 Jan 1809 in St.Cuthbert, Quebec. He died on 13 Sep 1876 in St.Gabriel de Brandon, Quebec. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Jean and Marie resided in St.AmbAmbroise while all thirteen children were
born. Later three of these children emigrated to Faribault and were the
prgenitors of many of the Durands in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The children
who emigrated Nazaire, Joseph and Eugenie in 1867. Later another sister,
Euphemie married a Leblanc and children from that marriage came to Faribault.

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Three cousins who were the children of Jean's half brother Francois Durand
moved with Jean and Marie children to Faribault in 1867. These childern were
Pierre and Felix Durand and Oliviia (Durand) Thibodeau. These also had large
families and were important progenitors of Durands in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

This Information is based on a geneology titled, "Decendents of George Durand
and Eleanor Dubeau," compiled by Roger E Durand an his first cousins. He was married to Marie-Esther MARTEAU on 25 Aug 1829 in St.Cuthbert, Province Of Quebec.

child ii. Nazarie DURAND(1) was born in 1832 in St.Ambroise, Quebec.
child iii. Nazaire DURAND(1) was born in 1834 in St.Ambroise, Quebec. !INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
Emigrated with his brother Joseph and Sister Eugenie (Durand)
Champagne from St.Gabriel de Brandon in 1867, possibly to homestead land in
Faribault Minnesota. Half-siblings(Children of Elisabeth Vadnais) Pierre,
Felix and Olivia (Durand) Thibodeau also emigrated to Faribault with Louise's
children.

These relatives all had large families. Most of the Minnesota and Wisconsin
Durands can be traced to these six grandchildren of Joseph Durand (1770-1835)

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
"Nazaire and Leocadie came to the United States from St.Gabriel de Brandon,
Quebec, Canada in 1867 in a covered wagon pulled by a team of oxen. At the
time they had four children, the youngest being a few months old. They
settled on a twenty (20) acre farm in Cannnon City Township, Rice
County,Minnesota,(near the outskirts of Faribault). It has not veen verified
if this was a homestead or if they purchased the land from a previous owner.
Four years later, 1871, they had their first child in the United States.
Their family grw until it nubered ten children, five girls and five boys. One
boy died in childhood , which left a family of nine children."

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
"They seemed to prosper in this new land of theirs, which many of us now call
home. It has been told to me that the whole family helped in an endeavor that
brought money into the household, this was making of wheat straw hats that
were
sold to the State Schools for the Deaf and Blind. Nazaire and Leocadie did
not leave this farm until 1913 when they sold it and went to live with their
daughter Mary and her husband Noel Pineur. Leocadie died in 1916 and
Nazaire in 1924."

!INDIVIDUAL GENERAL RESEARCH NOTES:
"They were members of Immaculate Conception Church from the time they arrived
until 1879 when Sacred heart Church was founded. Since this church was
established for the French-Canadian community of Faribault, They naturally
became members."

"They lived a long and properous life filled with many adventures and
hardships, many of which we will never know. Good reading and searching to
you all."
