This response was really thought-provoking. I guess I can't help but be biased in my opinion of history. If I had been a colonist, I'm sure that I would've done exactly the same thing that they did because my culture would dictate that it was acceptable. The point that I think I wanted to make was about humanism. I generally have thought of humanism as a good thing. It made people confident in humanity, curious, etc. I think humanism was good in that it made people confident in possiblities and the abilities of human kind. Does the overall good of humanism outweigh the bad things that happned as a result of humanism? Is humanism a good thing or does it promote selfishness, greed and egotism? That's the question that I am posing to you and the rest of the class...
