Just a quick comment for those of you who happen to catch it. What interests me the most about the passages which have been posted up to this point concerning the movie viewed in class is that they have mostly dealed with the sex scene. I am surprised that we have devoted all of our discusion to this small portion of the film. Perhaps the reason for this is that most of us feel uncomfortable with seeing such acts displayed in a public place such as a class, and rather would prefer to keep these images and subjects behind closed doors. The scene is there, it always has been and I'm sure it is here to stay. This film touches on so many other issues and topics of concern to us in the present time which seem to have been easily overlooked and are far more worthy of our devotion. I'm sure that the author would also attest to this if given the chance. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed reading everyones comments on the sex scene, they all have very interesting points. But even though this is a good topic of debate, I just feel that many others have been overlooked, such as the power of Christianity, or other forms of religion for that matter to have such a controlling influence in the lives of others, and its ability to instill fear into its followers as a means to influence and in many ways controll the acts of so many. This type of behavior can still be seen today in many aspects of life. Many Christians still to this day live thier lives by the book of God, not truely given the freedom to think and choose for themselves what suits them in their life experiences. In many ways, ordinary people, just the same as you and I live their lives just as monks did hundreds of years ago. What makes these people think and act the way they do? Are their own beliefs constructed through their own experiences with life or are thier "beliefs" given to them by some higher power? Is there a right or wrong way to approach this?

Just something to think about
