I've heard, too, that they don't have the floride in their water like we do here in the USA. It's not just the Brits, though. I've seen people with crooked, miscolored or missing teeth from all over Europe and I bet most other places in the world, too. The USA is big on dental hygene. It is recommended for us to have a professional check-up every 6 months or once a year when we get older. Kids get floride treatment every dental visit until they're 15!(I think that's the age.) It's not that Europeans don't brush their teeth twice a day. I think it's just that the professional cleanings, floride treatments, and even braces are not emphasised as much in other countries as they are in the USA. It's expensive to get braces in the USA so of course it's not going to be a necessity where the cost of living is much higher! I've even heard that people can tell a person's an American(of the U.S.) by looking at their teeth, but their are plenty of people in Europe that have Crest smiles too!
Some of this info may be wrong, but it's just stuff that I've heard or read somewhere.
