Sample Home Pages

  1. www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~gcarroll/ This site was made by a goofy guy but it tells a little about who he is and where he comes from.  I found the page easy to follow regardless of his breaking Nielson's rules. To a point Nielson might enjoy it.
  2. www.geocities.com/robbbbs/RobinPottsHomepage.html This girl loves pictures.  She explains most of her life through them.  It  takes a while to get the pages so if you don't have a T1 or better connection at the moment I wouldn't try looking at it.  She also does  this annoying thing with the pages fading in and out but it is a different perspective, one Jakob Nielson wouldn't like, on student web pages.
  3. http://ee.tamu.edu/HOME00/00_DEPARTMENT/WEL_f1.htm I feel this Professor's website is a waste of space.  It is informative, but very boring.   The homepage seems cold and uninviting giving the man an unapproachable character.  Also I am not a fan of just clicking one of the options and it brings you to one page where everything is listed and places you at that spot on the endless page. Printing is a hassle.   If I was a person thinking about this grad school and saw this person represented the head of the department.  It is good to be serious, but even his personal interests are dull.   The only good thing I could find about it was that it was easy to get away from and back to the university with the menu at the top.
  4. http://www-scf.usc.edu/~erikayou/  this one was fairly easy to naviagate, but it was mostly all pictures with almost all the writing done to explain whats in the photos.
  5. http://www.css.tayloru.edu/~ajohnson/index.htm  this one also used a lot of pictures but it also had a bunch of little graphics and borders and stuff going on in the pages. of the two i would say that Nielson would like the first more but i'm not sure if he would like that one very much either.
  6. http://www.d.umn.edu/%7Ecishino/  Both pages belong to faculity members of the UMD art department. The first page is rather informal, but  personal. The second page is much more sophicticated and professional, but less personal.  Enjoy!
  7. http://krypton.mnsu.edu/~seppmw/Home.html This web site contains a great amount of personal information.  It includes many photos of family and friends. The photos are nice, but do take a long time to download.  Yet, I was still very impressed at how she organized the site itself. I also liked how her main page was like a directory to other links of her page.
  8. The second site I looked at I was disappointed. www.d.umn.edu/~tzhu  I found that it was very difficult to navigate.  It was a professor's sites and I think that you really needed to know what you were looking for.  Even if you knew which class you were in you still had to know what you were trying to find.
  9. These are 2 of my friends Web sites.  As you can see they are quite different. http://www.d.umn.edu/~jose0034
