Revered around the state of Minnesota as the "Godfather of Hockey", John Mariucci's passion for competing and coaching hockey lead him through a hockey career that placed him not only in the United Stated Hockey Hall of Fame, but also in the hearts of many Minnesotans who religiously follow the game. |

Mariucci grew up on Hayes Street in Eveleth, also referred to by locals as "Incubator Street" because it was said that there were so many nationalities living there, and every house had at least eight children living inside. In these early years of the 20th century, kids would often play hockey on the frozen city streets, using hand-down skates and old magazines wrapped around their shins for padding. Mariucci began his incredible hockey career competing with neighborhood friends on the streets of Eveleth against the Summit and Jackson Street teams for local bragging rights. |
