DULUTH, MN – On December 6, 2013 from 2-3:30 pm, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Civil Engineering Department will conduct a unique stress test involving two 16-foot-long concrete beams. The beams, each made up with different compositions, were created by Civil Engineering students. Both beams are reinforced with traditional reinforcing material. One of them has a tension wire added for additional reinforcment. UMD is one of the few Civil Engineering programs in the country to conduct tests of this type.
Two classes are participating in the demonstration. Assistant professors Mary Christiansen and Eshan Dave, instructor Ronny Purba, and lab coordinator Mark Roberts will be leading the demonstration.
