groups and ls -l

• To see what group a file belongs to change to the directory the file lives

• in, then do a long listing: ls -l

• csdev01% pwd

• /home/volc/22/sholtz

• csdev01% cd cs2511/lab1

• csdev01% ls -l

• -rwx------ 1 sholtz student 11944 Sep 7 14:24 flush

• -rw------- 1 sholtz student 3124 Sep 7 14:23 flush.cc

• This shows that flush and flush.cc both belong to the student group. The group ownership is shown in the fourth column.
