groups and ls -l
To see what group a file belongs to change to the directory the file lives
in, then do a long listing: ls -l
csdev01% pwd
/home/volc/22/sholtz
csdev01% cd cs2511/lab1
csdev01% ls -l
-rwx------ 1 sholtz student 11944 Sep 7 14:24 flush
-rw------- 1 sholtz student 3124 Sep 7 14:23 flush.cc
This shows that flush and flush.cc both belong to the student group. The group ownership is shown in the fourth column.
