Well, our group came up with some similar answers as our classmates, but we may have a few new insights to add.
1) We feel that William was searching for the truth, and he used a scientific approach. He didn't immediately look to the bible, but to the clues and answers (much like we discussed in class, the Sherlock Holmes approach)
2) William believes in testing his hypothesis and examining the evidence. The inquisitor makes a quick decision, without even listening to the entire story sometimes. The word of teh inquisitor is the word of God in this case.
3) The monks are very reigious. They see similarities between the events taking place, and the holy word of the bible. Some of them believe God is punishing them for wrong doing.
4) Jorge feels that the manuscript is evil, but at the same time it is a book, which they considered sacred. As we discussed in class, I belive that he knew Aristotle was considered almost God-like, and he didn't dare distory the works. By poisioning the pages, he was able to punish those who sought humor.
5) We feel that two interesting questions could be raised for discussion. One of them we have been discussing on the forum. How does the society view sexual relationships? If they are so God-devoted, why are they paying a young girl to be a prostitute? And the second, why did they believe the word of the inquisitor so deeply? Couldn't they see the flaws in what was happening, or were they just to scared to speak out?
Those were our answers! See you all in class.
