Why doesn't Jorge simply destroy Aristotle's manuscript on comedy? Why does he see laughter and comedy as such a threat to the medieval way of life?
Our group deceided that because Aristotle was such an improtant philospher and he did agree with many of the church's phiolsphies, Jorge was reluctant to destroy the book. The book was hidden in the tower where only the head librarian and his assistant had access to it, but just in case a monk disobeyed the rule, Jorge deceided to poison the edges of the pages to preven anyone from reading the book and then revealing what they had discovered to others.
Jorge sees laughter as being at the root of evil. If people were allowed to laugh and have fun, they would eventually lose sight of their religion and thus, their "purpose" in life. This, of course is not allowable.
