Watching the film about Suleyman the Magnificent the other day the one aspect that really caught my attention was the art from this time period. Particularily Muslim art, and paritcularily the art of the great moque in Istanbul. One difference between Catholicism and Islam is the art. Unlike Catholic art it is wrong to portray images of Muhammed or Allah. Whereas Christians produce images of God and Jesus everywhere. I think this constant reproduction of God and Jesus puts alot of pressure on Christians to become as perfect and as much like these two figures as possible. I am not saying that this is wrong but Islamic art is all about organic designs that become patterns and usually represent foliage of some kind. I think this representation of plants depicts the life cycles that all living things experience, and the changes that are unique in all those cycles.
