I totally agree with you on this issue. I highly dought that women of that time went around trying to arrouse every man and turn them to sin. Also I am pretty sure that most of the women didn't force them to do it. Men do have a choice in the matter. Hell sometimes they have more of a choice then women do. I do have to say if women can control their hormone men should beable to control theirs.
As to the question of why these geniuses couldn't figure this out I would have to say it's because thay found it easier to fault women then to admit that these men who are supposedly in control of everything can't even control themselves.
