I saw in the vidoe today it showed a picture of St. Francis recieving the wounds of Christ, so I thought I'll write a post talking about what it is.
Stigmata is the term for when one recieves uncaused wounds, especially referring to when the wounds are those of Christ such as palms bleeding, or wounds on the forehead or sides. Muslims also have a form of stigmata where they recieve the battle wounds of Mohammed.
That stigmata occurs is an indisputable fact, however there are two schools of thought on the subject.
1. Its a sign from God. And on this I suggest reading The Catholic Encyclopedia
2. It is a psycological phenomena. Evidence for this is the fact that it occurs
often in the wrong places, for example crucifixions are universally displayed wrong in paintings in sculpture, the nail goes between the ulna and radius bones
of the arm below the palm, not through the palm. The reason for the mistake is that the greek word for wrist and palm are the same.
It is displayed correctly in the Shroud of Turin, the wrist is bleeding not the palm which is why there continues to be a debate on its authenticity
Hypnosis is capable of creating wounds such as stigmata indicating it is a psychosomatic wound.
To my knowledge there is only one instance of a protestant having stigmata, and roughly 400 cases total of some form of stigmata.
