Hi there. I hope that everyone had a nice break. I am still trying to get back into the "school mode." Anyway, last weekend I saw the movie Elizabeth . It was a great movie and I thought that it related to what we have been talking about. Well, I guess that wasn't such a brilliant deduction since Prof. Bacig mentioned her in class the other day, but oh well. Elizabeth, for those who don't know, is the story of when Elizabeth I becomes queen and how her own mentality also changes when she goes from being a Princess to a Queen. I don't know how much was exaggerated, but I have heard that it is basically true. It stars Cate Blanchett, Joseph Fiennes and Geoffrey Rush.
While watching the movie I thought about how Queen Elizabeth transformed from being a girl with idealized dreams of a perfect world into a queen with views much like Niccolo Machiavelli . As much as I think "The Prince" outlines a dictorial and drastic approach to ruling, I think in the right hands it is helpful. It is not good to lead a country only with your heart, it is better to use your head and your heart as checks and balances. Queen Elizabeth is a woman who achieved "The Golden Age" despite being a woman who was considered a "bastard whore" by many.
Thanks for reading. Oh, and if the links didn't work, I'm sorry, I am still not to clued in on computers.
Thanks.
