I actually own a copy of the movie, and after seeing it again from start to finish, I believe what acutally happened was that the poor girl was there to have sex with anohter monk. Once he was done with her, he gave her the hog heart. When she came across young Edgil (sp?) she saw how "beautiful" he was and wanted to have sex with him. She did so, and then in her haste to leave, she forgot all about her hog heart. I think also, that it was more than sex that was displayed between the two. I think both of them acutally felt soemthing for each other. Even at the end of the movie, she stands there watching after him, wanting him to come back. That was not just sex. A lot of people in our class just looked at the graphic sex scene and were disgusted. They were crying out for women's rights, but I don't think that they really stopped to look at the girl's inner feelings. I think that she did love him. She wanted to be with him through the entire movie, but it just couldn't be so. That was the only tradgety that I found in it. She showed a little skin, but I think she also exposed her heart.
