I feel the same way about christmas. I come from a praticing catholic family so you would assume that christmas is a big religious time of the year for us. It is a big time of year, but the only way we express our religion during the whole season is by attending church services. The religious part of christmas is forgotten in our celebration with gifts and all. It is supposed to be a religious event but our family does basically the same thing as you said yours does. We celebrate and give presents to show each other how much we care for one another. The reason, the birth of Jesus Christ, of christmas is overshadowed by the commercialism surrounding christmas.
