Wow! The thought of a female pope in one of the most conservative religions really lit a fire inside me in today's class so i searched the internet and found some interesting stuff. Her name was Pope Joan, and she disguised herself as a man in order attain the papacy. there is a debate about whether or not she actually existed. there is also a pope joan book that is about this female pope and it seems to be a very well researched piece. Also check out this site for a news oriented summary and ways to get a hold of the author. I have to blast off to work, but I'll be back with lots more later.
