1. Write a statement that you think
explains the essence of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. In
framing your statement, you might want to think about Shelley's
subtitle for her novel, (A Modern Prometheus), the myth
of Prometheus, and the poetic retellings of the myth that Percy
Shelley, and Lord Byron produced around this same time. Why has
the tale of this modern Prometheus become one of the stories we
keep telling ourselves. How do these Romantic writers understand
the conflict between individual experience and authority? Do they
see problems with individualism? Or you might want to talk about
some aspect of the film that confused or deeply moved or interested
you. Use the back of this sheet if necessary. (10 minutes)
