Job Description:
Makeup and/or Hair Designer: Research and design makeup and/or hair for a production. Purchase makeup and/or hair supplies within the budget. Style wigs if needed. Attend all production meetings and dress rehearsals. Train actors and crews how to apply makeup and/or style their hair or apply wigs if no makeup supervisor is assigned.
Student will be given a set of due dates which you must adhere to. Each item is due to Caitlin on a Monday and presented at the production meeting on Tuesday. It is essential that the assistant designer adheres to these dates.Planning Period:
Read the script
Create a hair/makeup plot as needed
Attend AND contribute to all production meetings
Meet weekly with Caitlin and the assistant designer. Schedule more frequent meetings with the director as needed
Create preliminary research and final research presentations
Create final renderings according to director/mentor feedback.
Create a source list based off of final rendering
Fitting / Build Period:
Style wigs as needed
Purchase wigs / materials as needed
Give actors CLEAR visual directions if instructing them to cut or dye their hair.
The designer is responsible for scheduling a makeup and hair tutorial/trial day with the actors and the hair/makeup crew. The designers must teach the crew and/or the actors how to do their makeup/hair at this time.
Hair/Makeup designer must attend all dress rehearsals and any Quick Change rehearsals scheduled during tech week.
The hair/makeup designer will work with the makeup supervisor to create checklists for the crew to maintain any hair pieces or prosthetics.
The hair/makeup designers will take notes on the costumes during the run, discuss the notes with the faulty mentor and present any relevant notes during the tech table. The designer is expected to email those notes to the costume shop manager and the design mentor at the end of every dress rehearsal.
The hair/makeup designer must address any design notes that come up during performances
Attend strike and help with cleaning and organization
Grading:
Final grade will be determined by the Faculty Supervisor after consulting necessary production team members with regards to how well the duties listed above were executed. If areas for improvement are noted, you will receive a written explanation with what was observed and suggestions for improvement.
