Job Description:
Assistant Costume Designer: Assist the costume designer in researching, sourcing, and fitting costumes for a production. Attend all production meetings and dress rehearsals. Train dressers how to perform quick changes as necessary.
Student will be given a set of due dates which you must adhere to. Each item is due to Caitlin on a Monday and presented at the production meeting on Tuesday. It is essential that the assistant designer adheres to these dates.
Planning Period:
Read the script
Create a costume plot with the costume designer
Attend AND contribute to all production meetings
Meet weekly with the costume designer and Caitlin. Schedule more frequent meetings with the designer as needed
Contribute to research
Pre-Production Period:
Attend and contribute to draper meeting
Assist with pulling costumes
Create Pull/Buy/Build List
Contribute to Source list
Fitting / Build Period:
Attend all fittings as schedules permit
The assistant costume designer is expected to help with finishing of the costumes (dye, craftwork, embellishments, etc) and may be given a construction project.
Dress Rehearsals/Performances:
Create check in sheets
Create quick change lists as needed
Attend quick change rehearsal
Assistant Costume Designer must attend all dress rehearsals and any Quick Change rehearsals scheduled during tech week.
The assistant costume designers will take notes on the costumes during the run, UNLESS the assistant costume designer is also serving as wardrobe head.
Strike and Post-Production:
Attend strike and help with laundry and organization
Grading:
Final grade will be determined by the Faculty Supervisor after consulting necessary production team members with regards to how well the duties listed above were executed. If areas for improvement are noted, you will receive a written explanation with what was observed and suggestions for improvement.
