This course requires each student to see five plays during the semester. Two plays will be chosen by the instructor, three plays will be the personal choices of each student. After seeing a production, students will post writen reviews at the UMD Theatre Review web site located at <http://umdtheatre.blogspot.com/> After seeing a production, be sure to keep the program, in order to enhance your blog entry with specific details such as names of actors, directors and designers.
To get full credit, students must include their full name for each review they post. If you forget to include your name on a post, repost the entire review including your name. Do not post your name separately.
Blog entries should read like short essays, so comments should be of a more formal nature. All reviews should contain between 2000 and 4000 characters. BlogSpot will not allow you to post a review of more than 4,096 characters, including spaces. Write a draft to be edited later is strongly encouraged. Proofreading, spell checking and judicious editing is important.
The instructor reserves the right to refuse to grade any review that does not meet the minimum length requirement.
Reviews can only be posted by people with a <d.umn.edu> domain. To change your domain name, go to <https://it.umn.edu/google-apps-change-campus-domain> and click on the link titled Change Campus Domain Request Form.
Use Chrome or Firefox browsers to post your reviews. The Safari browser does not work.
A list of dos and don'ts for writing critical reviews can be found at <http://www.d.umn.edu/~mharvey/th1001writingdosanddonts.html> While not comprehensive, these suggestions address the most common errors students make while critiquing the arts.
Do not ask the instructor to proof your review before posting it. Assistance is available from the Writers' Workshop in the Learning Commons on the second floor of the UMD Library.
Students may not enter more than one blog per day. Plan accordingly.

Requirement of the web log:
• Five reviews posted on the UMD Theatre Review blog, one per production attended.
• Reviews should be posted a day or two after viewing a play. Blogs posted after the deadline will be graded at the instructor's discretion.
• Do not publish more than one review for a given production.
• No more than one review can be posted per day.
• All reviews must be posted by the end of the last day of class.
• After posting, click the Refresh button on your browser to see your blog entry on the web site.
To post your review:
•Use a browser other than Safari (which doesn't work for some reason) to go to UMD Theatre Reviews.
• Write the review with word processing processing software such as MS Word, then copy and paste your review in the gray "Enter your comment" box at the bottom of the Entry.
• Add your name in the box labeled Comment as:
• Click Publish.
After posting, click the Refresh button on your browser to see your blog entry on the web site.
