Description:

Alternative rock, or alt rock, has become the mixing pot of modern rock. It’s generally used as an umbrella term for rock music that does not fit into any other genre. Alt rock also is associated with indie music as the genre evolved from punk-inspired bands signed to independent record labels. The name “alternative rock” was coined in the 80’s, until then it was called new music, post modern music, or college rock.
