In this assignment, you will combine words and an image (or images) to suggest a story, much as you did in the "My Last Duchess" exercise from class:
In the voice of a character who is not you, comment on the image(s) in ways that suggest larger, unstated implications and meanings, that create a sense of tension, and that imply a sense of character and "plot."
Genre
Rather than posting your text/image hybrid in Moodle, you will construct a Web page that looks like some familiar, Internet genre:
- a blog page, Facebook profile (see also, "My Darklyng" or Ashton Kutcher, Mr. Darcy's Blog),
- a personal home page,
- the home page of a fictional business (see also the Chang Brothers Kung Fu DoJo, especially the "About Us" page),
- an online class,
- an online news item (from an unreliable news source), etc.
As much as possible, make the design choices of this page contribute to the implied sense of irony, character, tension, and plot which is suggested by the text/image combination.
Space
Be sure the format you choose gives you sufficient, sustained verbal space to create a sense of voice. This is one of the challenges of New Media, which tends to break up writing into chunks of information. See, for example, the Facebook versions of Hamlet and Pride and Prejudice, which read like plot summaries than adaptations of the original works meant to be experienced.
