Repetition of ImagesRepeating an image on a Web page calls attention to its status as a mechanical reproduction, and undercuts its mimesis (realism). In the work above, Andy Warhol exploited this effect in the work above to call attention to the iconography of movie stars, and his garish colors further produce the sense of blankness in the image. On a Web page, a similar effect is possible: one picture of a kitten can be cute, but the same picture inserted twice in the same eyespan becomes a reproduceable cluster of pixels explicitly asking for our adoration. < Back to the Ideas Site home Please contact me about any broken links or errors, or if you have suggestions for additional links on this page.
