Syllabus

This course covers the first semester of a standard introduction to calculus of functions of a single variable. Topics include techniques of integration, transcendental functions, exponentials and logarithms, infinite sequences and series, vectors, partial differentiation, and applications. Intended for high-ability students with excellent preparation. Some supplemental material, not included in the text, may occasionally be presented in lecture.
Sections covered in Smith-Minton: 11.1-11.5, (10.6, 11.6), 6.1-6.6, 7.1-7.7 (7.7), 9.1-9.8, 13.1-13.5.


Grading (Topics are tentative)

Exam 1 Friday, Feb. 22 Ch's 11,6 15%
Exam 2 Wednesday, April 2 Ch's 7, 9.1-9.3 15%
Exam 3 Friday, May. 2 Ch 9, 13.1-13.4 15%
Final Exam Mon. May. 12, 10-10:55 Cumulative 30%
HW and Quizzes Throughout the semester ... 25%
Total 100%
The 25% Quiz and HW weights will be distributed roughly as follows Online MathZone HW 8%; written HW 7%; Quizzes 10% (drop the one lowest). The curve will be at least as "generous" as 90% for A's, 80% for B's, 70% for C's, 60% for D's.
