UMD Athletics Receives Four NACMA Awards for 2013-14 Marketing Efforts
DULUTH, MN – The University of Minnesota Duluth Department of Intercollegiate Athletics was rewarded for its innovative marketing efforts earlier this week when it received four “Best of” awards from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) at the organization’s annual convention in Orlando, Fla.
UMD was bestowed with two Gold citations, one Silver, and one Bronze for its exemplary marketing and fan-experience work during the 2013-14 sports season. Awards were voted on by marketing and administrative professionals in all divisions across the NCAA.
“I’m intensely proud of the fine work done by the Bulldog marketing staff, interns, and students led by (Director of Marketing and Corporate Relations) Brian Nystrom to win these prestigious and coveted NACMA ‘Best Of’ marketing and fan experience awards,” said UMD Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Josh Berlo. “Moreover, it is clear evidence of UMD Athletics’ commitment to our students, staff, faculty, alumni, season ticket holders and fans. Thank you BULLDOG COUNTRY for helping us win these coveted NACMA marketing awards and to WestmorelandFlint for our great marketing partnership.”
UMD’s four NACMA awards were:
- Sponsorship Activation (Gold) - The Bulldogs launched a UMD Bulldog Rewards Card with the Holiday Stationstores that provided BulldogCountry supporters with the opportunity to save five cents per gallon on gas, five percent off in-store purchases, and “The Works” car wash for just $5.00. The co-branded card was distributed to Bulldog alumni, fans and donors.
- Promotional Schedule Poster (Gold) - UMD earned this award for the concept and design of its 2013 football schedule poster.
- Promotional T-Shirt Design (Silver) - Bulldogs were cited for the design and concept of their 2013-14 UMD Penalty Box T-Shirt (UMD men’s hockey Student Section). A. J. Liskiewicz, who graduated in May from the UMD School of Fine Arts with a degree in graphic design, designed the t-shirt. A. J. worked as a graphic design intern for UMD Athletics for two years.
- New Revenue-Generating Idea (Bronze) - UMD revamped its football tailgating operations in 2013 and that included the expansion of tailgating space in the main parking lot, a hospitality tent inside James S. Malosky Stadium and improved season-ticket opportunities in the Malosky Club Lounge.
