UMD Community Involvement Fair Offers Students Numerous Options
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) will host its Community
Involvement Fair, sponsored by UMD's Office of Civic Engagement (OCE), on Wed.,
Sept. 18, between 9 am–2 pm in the Kirby Ballroom. This event is free and open to
the public.
The Community Involvement Fair features over 40 organizations that partner with
UMD and offer volunteer and community-based learning opportunities within
the Duluth community. Opportunities are available in such areas as education,
environmental sustainability, health care, animal welfare, youth, social justice, and
the arts.
Students are encouraged to volunteer as a way to get more involved in the
community, add experiences to their resumes, and gain knowledge about
organizations and the professional world.
About the Office of Civic Engagement
The OCE creates actively engaged life-long citizens. It has established over 70
community partnerships with local organizations and mobilizes approximately
2,000 students a year. The students contribute more than 30,000 hours of service to
the community annually. The OCE assists UMD faculty in incorporating community-based learning in courses, and they support departments and groups involved in
community based learning. See http://www.d.umn.edu/outreach/civic/.
