UMD's Music Department Announces Recent Achievements
UMD's music department's faculty and students have achieved numerous successes this summer. Department chair Jefferson Campbell says, "These things are all enormous achievements. We are doing so many things on the national and international level that we do not have one single event to hang our hat on, but dozens."
Here's the list:
• UMD Graduate Percussion Ensemble performs in Lyon, France as part of international percussion festival
• UMD Faculty Gene Koshonski and Tim Broscious perform and lead clinics in Lyon, France
• UMD Faculty Justin Rubin is featured in the May/June issue of Fanfare magazine including reviews of two of his CDs
• UMD faculty Dr. Bettina Muehlenbeck presents her research on composer Sternhold Bennett at the Royal Conservatory of Music in London
• UMD faculty member Rachel Inselman completes and international tour this month with performances in Australia. Tour included America and South America, including premieres of new songs by American composer Richard Hundley.
• UMD faculty Stan Wold wins the Maddie Simons Advocate Award from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council
• UMD music alumni Brett Linksi, oboe, and Derek Bromme, trombone, are featured soloists with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra this month. Derek is also adjunct faculty in music at UMD.
• UMD faculty Mark Whitlock has been invited to the international college of bands in Spain as guest conductor and clinician.
