Mayor Ness to Present Duluth Food Day Proclamation at UMD

In recognition of national Food Day, Mayor Ness will present an official Proclamation that declares October 24 as a citywide Food Day. This Proclamation recognizes the campus and community goals toward healthier, sustainable living.
The presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the UMD Plaza Food Court.
This event is free and open to the public.
Food Day is a nationwide movement toward healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Events address issues as varied as health and nutrition, hunger, agricultural policy, animal welfare, and farm worker justice. Food Day seeks to inspire community action in every city and state in the country, with individuals and organizations coming together on October 24 to learn, debate, and mobilize to improve the food system and the American diet.

A viewing of FRESH Part 2 in the UMD Garden Room from 12-12:45 p.m.
FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across American who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
Sara's Table: Farm to Table Dinner, October 24, 5-6:30pm
Sara's Table cafe is planning a Farm to Table dinner in celebration of Food Day! It will be served by candlelight and will be complemented with live acoustic music and unique spritzers made from cider pressed from apples grown at the cafe. Cost is $18 per person. Dr. Steven A Kuross, MD has 26 years of medical experience and practices in Hematology and Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He practices at Essentia Health and plans to speak on the importance of nutrition and cancer.
