John Pastor, UMD Professor of Biology and head of the Biology Graduate Program has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden.
Citing Professor Pastor's exceptional work in the field of forest sciences and his expertise in the study of boreal forests, the Swedish University's letter of commendation states:
"The research of Doctor John Pastor has been focused on complex interactions in the boreal forest, especially studied through field experiments and modeling. Pastor is an outstanding scientist at the Department of Biology, University of Minnesota, Duluth, USA and has for more than ten years closely collaborated with the Faculty of Forest Sciences at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. John Pastor has published many highly cited papers in the area of soil ecology, but also on plant-animal interactions."
Dr. Pastor will travel to Sweden on October 9 to receive this high award.
