University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Vice Chancellor for Academic Administration Vince Magnuson announced today that Professor Susan Naramore Maher has been named the new Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
Dr. Maher is currently the Peter Kiewit Distinguished Professor of English and Chair of the Department of English at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO). She will assume the deanship at UMD on July 15, 2010.
Professor Maher's undergraduate and graduate degrees were earned in English and include a B.A. from the University of Albany (SUNY), M.A. from the University of South Carolina - Columbia and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has published widely on the literature and literary cartography of the Great Plains and has received major teaching awards from UNO and from the Western Literature Association. Dr. Maher serves on several boards including the Willa Cather Memorial and Educational Foundation (as Vice President of the Board), Western Literature Association (as Past-President) and Nebraska Center for the Book.
