For the second year in a row a UMD student has been crowned Miss Minnesota. UMD sophomore industrial engineering student Courtney Basara was crowned Miss Minnesota USA November 29 at the pageant in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Miss Basara is a native Duluthian and a graduate of the Marshall School. In an interview with the Duluth News Tribune Miss Basara said, "Preparing for the pageant has kept me really focused. But school has always come first."
Miss Basara will go to Las Vegas in late March to compete in the nationally televised Miss USA pageant on April 18.
In 2008 UMD communication major Angie McDermott won the Miss Minnesota crown.
