UMD Health Services has received re-accreditation for its Counseling Services by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. (IACS).
UMD Counseling Services, which offers personal counseling to UMD students, was evaluated by IACS and determined to meet high standards of established counseling practices. It was found to offer competent and reliable professional services to its clientele.
UMD Health Services provides counseling to over 600 students each year. The most common reasons for students to seek counseling are depression, anxiety and relationship issues. UMD Counseling Services also reaches out to the students through its informational on-campus programs. Those include depression and anxiety screening days and presentations in classes on various topics such as test anxiety, stress management and eating disorders.
IACS accreditation is granted upon evidence of continuing professional staff development as well as demonstration of counseling performance excellence.
The IACS evaluates counseling agencies in United States, Canada and Australia. It was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services that are competent and reliable.
