the 2004 Michael Robert Lenz Creative Writing Scholarship
Awarded to Aaron Bottge
the Mike Lenz Proze for Imaginative Writing
Presented to Shane O'Reilly
The 2004 Michael Robert Lenz Creative Writing Scholarship was awarded in May to Aaron Bottge, an English major at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). The scholarship was established in 2003 by the family of Michael Lenz to honor Michael's life and encourage other young creative writers as he himself was encouraged.
Bottge was selected for the award by the UMD Department of English. He is recognized for his excellent work in spatial/concrete poetry, and plans to teach English after graduating in 2006.
The UMD English Department also annually makes its own award in honor of Michael Lenz, who is fondly remember by his former instructors and friends.
The Mike Lenz Prize for Imaginative Writing was given this year to Shane O'Reilly for his entry titled Undercurrent. O'Reilly graduated from UMD and plans to teach high school English.
