UMD Chancellor Kathryn A. Martin presented the 2003 Outstanding Media Person Award to WDIO TV news anchor Dennis Anderson at award ceremonies held April 30 at UMD. The award is presented annually by UMD to recognize excellence in professional broadcast and print media.
Anderson has been a WDIO TV broadcast journalist since 1969. His newscasts have won an Edward R. Murrow award, and an Emmy Award; and most recently won three Eric Severeid awards for coverage of the tragic Paul Wellstone plane crash.
He has covered three presidential visits to Duluth, and also anchored a live broadcast when, then presidential candidate, George W. Bush, campaigned in Duluth. He has been invited to the White House and State Department on four occasions for briefings with presidents and cabinet members.
