Alfred "Mick" McComber has been appointed Director of UMD Recreational Sports and Outdoor Program (RSOP), and Tim Bates has been appointed Associate Director, as of January 1, 2003. McComber replaces Richard L. Haney who retired as director on December 31.
Mick McComber has been the Associate Director and Coordinator of UMD Intramural and Club Sports for the past 15 years. Tim Bates has been Coordinator of UMD Natural History and Environmental Education the past 12 years. The RSOP Director reports to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Support and Student Life, Bruce Gildseth.
The UMD Recreational Sports and Outdoor Program provides programs in recreational sports, fitness, outdoor recreation, and education. The programs involve approximately 95% of the UMD student body as well as large numbers of faculty, staff, and participants from the broader Duluth community. Program areas include intramural sports, club sports, informal sports, aquatics, paddling, climbing, natural history, environmental education, as well as trips and special events.
